What To Do if You Have an Auto Accident

People love their cars. They travel in them, work in them, eat in them and even occasionally sleep in them. A car is like part of the family and you rely on it to keep you safe. But, accidents can happen and when you are involved in one do you know what to do? Before calling the Bethel Park towing service, there are other steps that need to be taken.

Safety First

The first thing you should do after an accident is pull off the road if possible and stop the car. Make the passengers in your vehicle are all right. If possible, get out and away from the vehicle in case of a fire or explosion, and to prevent being hit by additional traffic. If someone is injured call 911 for help immediately, no matter how trivial it may seem. Turn on the flashers to draw attention.

Get Help

After you have called for an ambulance, call the police to come to the location. You may need assistance and you will need them to determine and verify who is at fault. They can help you with gathering the information that will be needed to file with your insurance.

Get all of the information possible to provide to police and your insurance provider. Take down the other car’s make and model, and the license plates number. Make sure to write down their names and contact information for them and their insurance company. If there was a witness, get their name and number. Record the date, time and location of the accident and if possible, take photos of the damage and the surrounding area.

Enjoy your car, but take precautions such as fastening seat belts and carefully watching surrounding traffic. Always keep an updated insurance card in the car. Carry a few emergency supplies, including water and a working flashlight. Hopefully you will never need any of this, but preparation may help lessen the pain.
